So I've been thinking about upgrading my system after christmas. I want to move my pc into a rackmount case and watercool the CPU. I got an idea for how I am going to try to do this, but I thought I'd post my plan and get a sanity check before I run off and buy all the parts. So heres a picture of the case, for reference.

If you look at the interior, you will see that the area for the 3.5" drives is removeable. I am going to take that out and put in one of these(http://www.amazon.com/xspc-universal-radstand-radiator-mounting/dp/b004ko9da0) in order to mount a 120mm fan and radiator. For the reservoir I found one made by bitspower that will fit in the one remaining 3.5" drive bay next to the 5.25" bays. I chose not to go with a 5.25' bay reservoir to conserve space for other non-watercooling related components. Not entirely sure what I will do for the pump yet but I have plenty of options, as I could go with a pump/cpu waterblock combo, or just fit a separate one in the ample space between the 5.25" bays and the PSU. I am new to watercooling, so someone please tell me if I am insane, or is this going to work?

edit: please pardon me if this IS insane, as its 3:00 in the morning where I am, and all I've had to keep me up is the sugar content of a greek pastry...

Youre gonna want more than a 120 rad for a full custom loop. I think you should stick to air...... Or just not a rackmounted case

If by full custom loop you mean CPU and Video card, I only intend to watercool the cpu.

Oh. It sounded like you wanted to watercool everything. A stand alone cpu loop isn't worth it in my opinion. Just get an aio and call it a day.

AIO is too easy. I like experimenting with things, and doing them in fun roundsbout ways that still work. Dunno if that makes any sense, but im doin this somewhat for fun, and to be able to say i have it, Another thing to consider is the amount of room without that drive cage. I cant fit a longer rad, but i could easily fit a way thicker than normal one, or even have a couple in a row if i wanted to add a video card to the loop later on.

If you have a plan, factored the possibility of fitting everything, considered the total cost, then yeah go ahead.

No point asking us if you're just going to give the 'fun' excuse to any issue we raise.

Well it wasnt really an "issue" he raised. Just tried to convince me not to do it because it "wasnt worth it" to him. If theres an actual issue that will affect the functionality of the plan i want to know. But I dont want to be talked out of it just because its hard. To some people building a custom computer "isnt worth it." This is worth it to me, i just want help making sure what im trying to do is possible, the plan will work, im not missing anything, ect...

If you go with a 120mm rad I´d suggest to stay with air TBH. The cooling will be not much better than a real good air cooler and all major advantages like superior cooling and high OC potential will be gone. All the hassle for the looks... well if that´s what you want go for it.

Seriously guys? He's in it for the enthusiasm and enjoyment of the process. Performance, OCing, whether "it's worth it" are all irrelevant. He's here like he said, for a sanity check, making sure he's not leaving out an important detail in the process.OP, I don't know a whole lot about radiators but what you're doing sounds fine. Dual 120mm it up dawg.

Thanks!

make sure the pump is under the resvior at least during filling gravity will make priming much easier and I think you soud make the radiator the exhaust and intake throe the back because from the looks of it the server doesn't have much ventilation and the heat will be kicked strait out instead of staying in the case for a while
