Can RAM modules that are not on the motherboard's list of compatible modules cause blue screens if used with that motherboard

Really? Because when I was building and added my RAM I hadn't realized that the RAM modules I used were not on the list in the manual for the motherboard and it was working, but lately ive been getting some BSODs that i believed are linked to RAM because they are linked to ntoskrnl.exe

Well when the ram goes wrong it usually sends the motherboard screaming.

Yes and no. They will either not work at all, or they might cause a BSOD. The only way to tell if it's your RAM causing an issue is to swap it out for supported RAM and see if the issues is still there.

 

Not bluescreens, they wouldn't even post.

It might post. I am using RAM that is not on my mobo's official supported RAM list and it works just fine. It depends on the quality of the mobo and if it's a specialty application mobo.

One last thing, could the BSOD errors SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION and IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL_TO be linked to RAM
