any harm to windows 10 if you shut down system during (downloading updates )?

I mean if it's stuck you have no other choice, but its not recommended. You should be fine, I've had the same problem where I've had to shutdown through an update too and my computer lived.

Nothing will happen however when you restart, windows might say "Rolling back updates" and that can take forever.

Not really, its a hit and miss tactic is this, I have done it loads of times when an update got botched, it just normally reverts back to last known good config.

Worst comes to worst, run startup repair and get it fixed.
