Ram help!

Go to solution Solved by tbroadwater2010,

Hello,

Im going to build a new PC and I am going to take some parts from my old PC, Graphics card, HHD and SSD and the RAM.

And the question is that will the ram work with a 2x4 gb kit the kit is 1600 mhz and my old RAM is 1x8 gb 1333 mhz.

Will it work as a 16gb system? Im ok that my 2x4 gb kit will run at 1333 mhz if needed.

This guy says that is will work as 8gb of usable ram.     http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-1945351/4gb-ram-sticks-8gb-stick-time.html

Thank you!

New

CPU i7 4790k

Motherboard gigabyte ga-z97x-gaming 3

Ram Crucial BallistixSport 2x4GB 1600MHz

Old Ram 8gb 1333 MHz.

And for the last thing, which slot should I put 8gb and 2x4 gb in? First or Second?

Good question. It should work in theory. As long as you put the 2X4GB sticks in matching slots and throttle them down to 1333mhz, in theory it should work. I would test first with just the 2x4GB sticks to be sure they are good, then throttle them and then add the 8GB

As long as it's all DDR3 you can pretty much just mix and match any RAM, but if I remember correctly all the DIMMs will lock down to the lowest voltage DIMM, so all the sticks would be 1333mhz
