I like backplates because they make the card more rigid and they hide a possibly ugly PCB.

I just bought a MSI R7970 OC since it was so cheap at $300 but then I realized that it had a brown pcb...so I dropped $35 on an EK-FC7970 backplate because I was told those don't need a water block as well.

A total waste of money to me. I don't build a rig to look at it, I build a rig to make sure it performed the way I want it.

Does anyone know if there is a backplate available for the Gigabyte GTX 770 Windforce?

I believe this EVGA one will work. http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=100-BP-2770-B9

Can anyone confirm this?

Edit: Nevermind, it doesn't. I've heard that some people get a custom one made. Perhaps there is someone near you that can do that?

Doesn't anyone think that a complicated circuit board looks better than a plain sheet of black :(

Not when the look you want for your build is "clean". It is fine for builds that have that aesthetic, but most people like clean builds.

For my pertinent links to guides, reviews, and anything similar, go here, and look under the spoiler labeled such. A brief history of Unix and it's relation to OS X by Builder.

I'm considering getting the GTX 760 Hawk instead of the Gigabyte GTX 770 since it looks better and when OCed it is nearly equal in performance.

As you can see the MSI GTX 760 Hawk looks a lot better than the GIgabyte GTX 770 when installed in your case and viewed through a side panel window (although I would argue that from the front the GTX 770 looks nicer). Do you think I should save my money and get a better looking card (the GTX 760 Hawk) instead of paying for a GTX 770 that looks uglier?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

  • 2 months later...

Hi I am new to the forum but wondering If I can get a backplate for my new Asus HD R9 280x Direct cu II as it does not come with one. I have check with Asus web site but no luck. I am merely using it for aesthetic for my GPU and for the rigidity. Is there any one on the net or a site  that have the aftermarket backplates or will the backplate from the Matrix platinum fit and can I get one of those from some place.
