Windows after mobo change.

Do i have to reinstall windows when i changed mobo and cpu?

if you are using windows 10 you will need to register it again as windows 10 binds to the motherboard instead of the hdd like other systems. Other than that it should be fine. You can get a license transfer by talking to microsoft if you have any issues.

It's hit and miss. I've done motherboard swaps with Windows working fine, but also ones where it won't boot into Windows at all. 

 

If you're changing chipset, I'd advise doing a clean install anyway, as conflicting/old drivers can be a mess.

If you don't want to reinstall then go into device manager and remove as many drivers as you can, mouse last. Also don't check the UNINSTALL driver box in the pop up window. It takes awhile to get re set up and may seem to freeze during finding new hardware. Be really patient, it'll probably work but no guarantees. I've done it to though like Oshino and worked for me, just slow.

In general it's best to resinstall, but you can sometimes get away without if the boards are similar enough and just need some slightly different drivers.

same. one time I had to call microsoft to unlock my windows code and few times I just swapped parts and she booted right up
