Security for Main 3 OSes

Hi, so I'm doing some plans for some data server builds just my plans for home and I'm planning on using the three main ones if not a hackintosh server then just two. I was wondering where would be a good place to start for learning about securing a network?

A... Mac server?  Huh?  Are you trying to secure a network, or secure server access?

The OS for a mac server, I was told it's just become an app now, for storing files that can only be properly stored on a mac based system 

 

both, not sure where to start
