Hackintosh build, will it work?

Hey,

 

I'm new to building computers but decided to delve in for the experience gained by it and to have a good desktop that will last a few years.

 

I want to build a computer that can run OSX, Windows and some sort of Linux (preferably Ubuntu) and plan on using it as my desktop for a few years to game on, work on,  and watch linus' beautiful faceticulars.

I plan on using monitors I have laying around, nothing crazy, probably two or three depending on what I can find, but at least 1080p or higher.

For peripherals nothing crazy either for now. Just a regular keyboard and mouse without any flashing lights or special features.

I put together this build based on the guide on tonymacx86.com site and using pcpartpicker:

Will these parts work, and if you know about hackintoshing, will that work too?

I know it says the graphics card exceeds the case's limit but as shown in some Youtube videos like this one: youtu.be/hIFiBHtYTAA , it barely fits.

Are there any other things I didn't catch that could be improved on? I think I made sure that it's (mildly) OC'able but is it?

I'm willing to spend a few extra bucks (200EUR-ish) on another part if it improves performance a lot or if it's known to work better, more reliable or last longer.

Do you really want your first build to be this difficult to complete?

Because i can say right now, making a HackInTosh is no easy feat and i think the case you have chosen is too small

Yep this all looks good in terms of basic compatibility. I would look into a Gigabyte motherbioard tho. I'm not putting down ASrock but Gibabyte boards tend to be the absolute best in terms of THEM JUST WORKING. Also the GPU is too long. If you want a 970 look for a compatable one with a shorter length. Maybe a STRIX if it will work?

I am willing to take on the challenge, I don't mind if it takes me weeks to figure it out, I'm sure I will learn a lot from it.

It's such a sexy case tho I'll probably end up using the 540 to be sure.

I'll see what the gigabyte alternatives are.

Dude go with a 4930K and a GTX 780 because I know for sure that these work cuz Linus used them in his hackintosh build log. Mobo should be fine
