So I've posted here before about this

When I play graphically intensive games my PC screen goes black. The sound and programs like skype sometimes carry on but mostly It buzzes or maybe loops. I have to hard reset and sometimes when I turn the PC back on it won't post until I reset the PSU, sometimes it will post like normal and sometimes it will beep 5 times (2 spaced out but quick beeps then 3 quick beeps together).

So far I've tried:
-a fresh install of windows on a different SSD
-upgrading the PSU
-running the game with one stick of RAM at a time (crashes)
-running 10+ runs of mem test on both sticks with no errors
-underclocking the GPU and running the GPU/ CPU at stock

What should my next step be? I feel like the GPU is stable, should I RMA that or the motherboard? Or the CPU? I don't know what to do first.

Specs:
PSU: used to be Corsair CX 600W 80+ Bronze, bought an EVGA super nova G2 750w to replace
CPU: Intel i5 4690K slightly overclocked to 4GHz
GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SC ACX 2.0 factory overclocked (I've tried underclocking but it still crashes about as often)
Mobo: Gigabyte Z97M-D3H
Memory: Kingston Fury White Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5 Solid State Drive
Storage: Toshiba 2TB 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

Temps: GPU 70-80 degrees C under load (inc. 15 mins of furmark at 78 C)
CPU 60 degrees C under load (inc. prime95)

try to turn cpu anf gpu to stock settings, then run prime95 in small fft test for as long as you can (1.30 hour minimum).

if everything's ok then test your gpu with furmark or 3dmark (and set a fun profile with msi afterburner for example to achieve lower gpu temps)

I've done both, prime95 for over an hour at 60 C and Furmark for 20 mins at 78 C. You reckon lowering the GPU temp would help?

would do that too be careful with the cpu voltage though in connection with prime95 make sure the voltages are set to static so prime does not overwrite.

Also: do you get any kind of crash reports? Have a look at the crash records. My only guess would be then that your motherboard has some power delivery issues, but that is just speculation...

Those temps are just fine.... since your screen goes black and you did not mention any blue screen or something i would as i said guess the problem is related to the mobo, but more likely to the cpu... did you try running that card in another system? maybe in a friends pc if you don't have one yourself...

Edit: NOT CPU I meant GPU haha

Nope, no crash reports written. I've tried changing the type of crash report to a smaller one as well but it seems like it doesn't know it's crashed.

So if my CPU and GPU haven't crashed during stress tests maybe it's the mobo? I guess if I'm returning the mobo I may as well replace everything at the same time since I'll be without a PC.

I'll try that, my flatmate is weird when it comes to changing his PC though after he stupidly broke his CPU a while ago.

Thing is synthetic benchmarks don't usually tell the whole story... so yah the only reasons i can think about for this kind of behaviour is a broken gpu or motherboard problems.

BUT before you rma try running the gpu in another pci-slot.

Edit: And as i suggested persuade your roommate to let you try the gpu in his system :D also

Damn, I didn't even think about switching the slot, I'll try that now

Also just to be sure do some kind of safe run of your games (by that i mean unplug anything you don't need and maybe also try a different monitor cable and connector on the gpu sometimes there are just weird things) also did you ever reinstall your graphics drivers? If no also try that...

It's been doing it since the day I built my PC (like 6 months ago). I've used every combination of monitor and cable I can and exactly the same thing happens.

I agree but don't think it's the mobo. in my opinion something's wrong with the gpu, try to unnistal with ddu the drivers and clean install again.

have you tried the gpu on another pc?

I couldn't change the PCIe slot in my case, I'm not gonna bother taking the mobo out to try it.

also my flatmate won't let me use his PC because he's a penis so I'm just gonna RMA the card and hope that works.
