INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE

Go to solution Solved by Fetzie,

Just seen this on the website, might be the reason it locked up on you:

warning.pngDue to specifics of Windows 8 Fast Startup option we recommend to disable it before installing the driver to avoid possible filesystem corruption. Instructions on disabling can be

            found in Microsoft Knowledge Base

In that case, I think that trying to fix the MBR is the first thing, and if that doesn't work, trying to run check disk to save some files.

If you have a linux liveCD lying around you could try booting into that (it is a non-destructive linux installation that runs off an optical disk or USB stick) and seeing if you can access the drive. Then copy everything you can off the drive (personal files etc) to a usb drive. Then you can re-install Windows.

Hi everyone,

I uninstalled Paragon HFS+ from my computer and when it asked me to reboot, it never came back and I got this error (Inaccessible_boot_device). I have installed windows 10 on my other drive. Can I fix my main Windows 10 installation from my "backup" version on Windows 10 without having to backup everything (I'm afraid I'll forget some files and lose them forever) ?

Try running a windows repair from your windows disc/usb stick. It might just be that your mbr got fucked by uninstalling Paragon (doesn't it make Windows able to access GPT drives or something?), which would be a fairly easy fix.

I tried to fix the MBR, but it didn't work. I obviously did it wrong. How do you do it again ?

I have the windows 10 install USB so I installed it on my other drive and I'm copying everything I can manually and using EaseUS Todo Backup, which I highly doubt it will work ...

Should I try the "Refresh PC" option if I can't repair the MBR ?

Thanks for the useful informations !

If I reinstall using this method, will it keep the programs installed on my drive ? (my internet is slow af)

EDIT : And by the way, I just ran "sfc" command prompt and it apparently fixed things. I'm gonna try to boot on the drive now.

EDIT 2 : Didn't work.

I don't know, I've never had to do it (knocks on wood). But I'd assume not; "personal files" will likely be music, documents and things like that.

Yeah, that's what I thought too.

I'm gonna see if I can fix the MBR, and if it doesn't work, I'll make sure I back up everything and re-install windows, the only thing I didn't want to do ...

I'll tell you how it goes. Thanks !

EDIT : bootrec commands didn't work. I was expecting that, it's never that easy ...

Last question (sorry for the double-post) : How do I make sure I have everything backed up ?

Sadly, since all the run times are within the Windows install, you're lost if any of the above methods don't work. A note for the future: keep a folder on a flash drive of driver and program installers - for those that don't require downloading, you can just extract them and install, then do any updates*.

*Don't quote me on this, although it's worked for me for the past two installs of Windows I've used.

No no, the disk works and I'm trying to copy everything but I don't know if I can copy programs (but I'm sure it doesn't work like that) and I'm afraid to forget something in some random hidden folder and wipe the drive like an idiot.
