Hi guys, I'm talking about the CPU, the CPU from the dell computer. Fuck's sake. Mention something about getting a different board.

So do you have the full system? Dell's cases do not have removable IO plates so the real answer to that is no but if you have the full system I would say try the pad mod that I linked up there in my last post or grab an E8400. With the pad mod you could hit around 3+Ghz if lucky so might be fun to try that out if you are feeling risky :P

Okay what if I just keep the CPU and just buy a different board, would I be able to overclock?

Also boards will be expensive, Gigabyte is the only one making new 775 boards right now and I think ASRock. Finding a good overclocking board will fetch you around $80+ so your best bet it picking up the E8400 for $10 which will kick the E2180s ass performance wise. :)

I have the full system. Yes. I am wondering if overclocking depends on the chipset or the cpu or both. From what you're saying, it sounds like I can overclock this cpu if I get a new board/different one. Is that correct?

In addition, where could I find out the max memory limit for this CPU? Intel's page does not say.

Max RAM would be 8GB 4x2GB stick configuration, for overclocking you will not be able to through the BIOS or normal forms of overclocking but it would be through a physical CPU mod that can be very beneficial but if not done right can result in a nice paper weight. In short No! you will not be able to overclock and grabbing a E8400 for $10 is highly recommended by me truly :P since that CPU can kick some ass in a media center/streaming PC if you wanted :D

This chart gives a good representation of the performance you will gain with the E8400 if you wanted to get one (from personal experience also)

For $10 it is well worth it
