Hi All.

I have been playing Final Fantasy XIV pretty much since the launch with a few minor breaks for different reasons. I seriously love the game graphically and in every other way (Long time Final Fantasy anything fan) and I have a friend who wants to like the game because he said it looks amazing, but he cant stick with it long enough to enjoy it.

His big breaking point is that the combat basically revolves around a 2.5second timer (global cooldown/cast timer/etc). Whereas he is used to WoW and a couple other free MMOs revolving around a 1second global cooldown/etc.  Is there anything I can do to help him get used to the 2.5second timing without him giving up after 5 minutes of play? Anyone else have a hard time getting used to the timing but now love the game?

I personally think the 2.5 second timer is a little bit long, sure. But, I think it is there because the game is meant to be more along the lines of taking time to plan out positioning and give you time to react to enemy attacks and be tactical about things apart from WoW where you just go in guns blazing, not thinking about anything and just let the healers deal with the consequences.

Thanks

He might like bard? It allows you to be super mobile when you play so you don't really notice the timer quite as much. Once you hit 50+ it changes a bit but still very mobile.

I told him to try ninja because its weird to explain, but ninja just feels faster, like he makes more movements per button press so it doesn't feel like your sitting idle doing nothing while waiting for the timer. Plus you have the ninjitsu symbols, so you can do stuff between the attack cooldowns.

That's true, monk is kinda the same I guess where you have to keep track of a lot all the time. I've just always preferred ranged myself so suggested bard (my main for the above reasons).
