What should i get for a setup.

Guest

So yesterday I got in a fight to see what was a good setup, and now that i think of it its probably too much.

I am just using it for gaming and editing videos, and probably make games in the process.

My budget is at maximum $1000 (USD)

If you would like i'll show you what i had in mind. (obviously its too much.)

Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3-1600 UDIMM

ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO with Intel Z170 Express ATX Motherboard

Intel Core i5‑4690K 3.5 GHz Quad‑Core Processor

WD Blue SSHD 4TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive - SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache

CORSAIR CP-9020061-NA 750W MODULAR POWER SUPPLY

Sapphire Radeon R9 390 NITRO Tri-X Graphics Card

SanDisk Ultra II 2.5" 960GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) SDSSDHII-960G-G25

Any computer case.

Well. I do want a reccomendation for a case, the price is not included in the budget, though can it be under $50.

Thanks

Don't get an SSHD get a WD black drive and spend some more money on your case, e.g a fractal design r4. SSHD's are useless for secondary storage its pointless to have one when you can have a black drive with the same speeds.

What you had in mind is likely twice your budget.

My recommendation is to follow that build, but change it if a deal comes up or something along those lines. It's a pretty similar build to what I myself was gonna buy, but I saw a 4790k for $250 so i couldn't pass it up.

But tbh, the MSI Gaming 5 is a bit expensive of a motherboard especially since you're going for a h97 mobo. I'd rather recommend the ASRock Fality mobo. It's cheaper and still goes with the theme.

Don't be fooled by the bottom line of my sig, that is just for my travels.

So you're telling me that Gaben is no God? Enough of your foolishness.

My hardware you ask? I'm using a Dell Inspiron 3217 Notebook... With an LG 25UM57.

Is a 4690k better than a xeon e3?

Is a 4690k better than a xeon e3?

Sort of. It provides maybe 2-3 more fps in games and can overclock if you're into that thing whereas the Xeon has a locked multiplier and can't be overclocked. There is a way to "overclock"

the Xeon, but it's really just changing the cores to always be running off of turbo boost rather than their stock speeds which could theoretically increase performance.

Now that we've established that the 4690k has better single core performance overall, the Xeon instead has similar(typically lower, but not noticeable or much of a drawback) performance in games. What sperate the two is that the Xeon has a lower TDP, lower power consumption, as well as it has hyperthreading.

So to make my answer short, if you need an overall computer that can do everything without sacrificing performance, go Xeon E3. If you just want to overclock like a madman, go with the 4690k.

Not really, they just better at different things with similar performance.

The xeon is $100 cheaper and not overclockable

4690k can overclock but more expensive

The reason I put the Xeon is because in Video Editing, it perform better than the i5.
