When it comes to water cooling, it's only worth it if you're water cooling to reduce noise levels. If it's to increase performance it's much better to go for a 980Ti instead.

if you already have a loop get the one that has a full cover waterblock otherwise its pointless

I would buy the extra tubing and fittings for it and the block but I could invest in a better 980 than the block that's why I thought about the matrix and the 980ti is too expensive of a jump

Well there´s an EKWB for the EVGA SC for sure because it uses a standard PCB. For the Matrix I´m not sure you´d have to check waterblock manufacturers.

also look at the ftw and classified versions of the evga  cause they have extra power phases for not much more
