Comcast Lying?

So various people have been sent over to our house to fix cables cut outside. (boy do I love the weather here)

But our problems just kept coming back. The WiFi would just keep going down! I (warning: not to great with networking), did all the troubleshooting I could and found nothing wrong.

Finally, the last Comcast guy came. He said that our routers (dual RT-N66U) were incompatible with the new modem due to new "security patches". It has gotten a bit better since but I have a feeling this is because of the new gateway he got us.

Is that incompatibility even possible?

 

I will provide more details or model numbers of anything if you're interested.

They're incompatible because Comcast says they are. If they were interested in what their customers wanted, they could easily make it work, but they won't, because fuck the customer.

 

Edit: This behaviour is typical of american ISPs, and it's going to get them all killed eventually. Look up what happened to AT&T in the 1980s.

as long as your router is not old (5 years +) it shouldn't be incompatible.

The comcast modem is brand new, ~1 month old.

And none taken, I was pretty sure he was wrong anyways

Wait...Why do you have two routers? How is the connection between your modem and your routers set up ?

What is the model of the modem they gave you? And how is your modem connected to the two routers? Is one of the routers set up as an AP?
