I'm probably gonna get scrapped for saying this but...

In terms of internet security I've always stuck with Norton Internet Security for everything. I've never had a single issue with the program in terms of system performance. And its always held the attacks off long enough for me to get my anti-malware running to get rid of it.

Now for actually securing your files there's not much on windows that you can do.

You can encrypt your folders and change privileges to who can/can't read that folder if you have multiple users on the same computer.

As for locking/password protecting a folder, you're going to have to do some research on some 3rd party applications that do that for you. I don't recommend doing that simply because they usually have many cracks in the system and are easy to bypass. But for the sheer purpose of password protecting you stuff vs. the average computer user, then you're good to go.

Edit: As for backups and file restoration, I just keep an external USB HDD to backup the necessary folders and files to restore lost files in case of an accident. In that case, I also keep the drive in a safe place where it won't get used on accident.

Spoiler

Yeah, i agree, norton is underrated and is almost treated like mcafee, i used it for about 3 years before switching to bitdefender, also, both of those are about the same price on g2a, which is like 10 euros

For the file itself definitely encrypt the file.

Maybe even put them in virtual machine.

Another level is to unplug the drive.... People won't be able to access my unplugged drive.

For OS definitely use anti-virus, not 100% will protect you but imagine anti-virus as your helper.

If I'm just too paranoid I'd save them in security oriented OS like Qubes OS or Whonix.
