Posted November 29, 2015 here's my build that I built just a year ago: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/j3BrNG I would like to play Arma 3 on higher settings/frame rate than I already am. Right now I get about 25-30fps on high settings. I already know I need an Intel processor if I want to get decent fps from arma, but I was also wondering if a new GPU would be better instead. (Would I be bottle-necking if I got a new GPU while keeping my currrent CPU?) If I get an intel cpu I'll have to get a new MOBO... I don't want to start an endless cycle of switching out every component in my build so everything is compatible. What specific upgrades (CPU, MOBO, GPU, SSD maybe?) would be good to go with? What would be worth the money? My budget is $500 or less. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Posted November 29, 2015 I second post above. An i3 and an R9 380 would be good. Posted November 29, 2015 New PSU like the one Don recommended. Then go for like an i5-4460 and H97 Board or if you can afford a i5-4690k w/ Z97 or Xeon 1231v3 w/ H97 Then for the GPU no less then a R9 380. i7-6700k Cooling: Deepcool Captain 240EX White GPU: GTX 1080Ti EVGA FTW3 Mobo: AsRock Z170 Extreme4 Case: Phanteks P400s TG Special Black/White PSU: EVGA 850w GQ Ram: 64GB (3200Mhz 16x4 Corsair Vengeance RGB) Storage 1x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 240GBSandisk SSDPlus, 480GB OCZ Trion 150, 1TB Crucial NVMe (Rest of Specs on Profile) Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/495532-upgrade-ideas/#findComment-6629748 Share on other sites
 The one I actually have is an EVGA 500b. I'm not sure it makes a difference but would a new PSU still be needed? I'm not sure it makes a difference but would a new PSU still be needed? 500B is a bit better then the CX series, Not for a new CPU would the PSU be needed though possibly for a GPU. i7-6700k Cooling: Deepcool Captain 240EX White GPU: GTX 1080Ti EVGA FTW3 Mobo: AsRock Z170 Extreme4 Case: Phanteks P400s TG Special Black/White PSU: EVGA 850w GQ Ram: 64GB (3200Mhz 16x4 Corsair Vengeance RGB) Storage 1x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 240GBSandisk SSDPlus, 480GB OCZ Trion 150, 1TB Crucial NVMe (Rest of Specs on Profile) Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/495532-upgrade-ideas/#findComment-6629991 Share on other sites
 What do you think of this combo? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PdCKTW Here it is with the rest of the build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bWnwdC Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/495532-upgrade-ideas/#findComment-6630313 Share on other sites
 OR, the 380x if it is not out of your budget. i7-6700k Cooling: Deepcool Captain 240EX White GPU: GTX 1080Ti EVGA FTW3 Mobo: AsRock Z170 Extreme4 Case: Phanteks P400s TG Special Black/White PSU: EVGA 850w GQ Ram: 64GB (3200Mhz 16x4 Corsair Vengeance RGB) Storage 1x 1TB Seagate Barracuda 240GBSandisk SSDPlus, 480GB OCZ Trion 150, 1TB Crucial NVMe (Rest of Specs on Profile) Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/495532-upgrade-ideas/#findComment-6631594 Share on other sites
