Is this worth the extra?

Go to solution Solved by thekeemo,

Slightly off topic, but what is the CMOS please?

its where the bios settings are stored

And no it is not worth it

So, i've been looking at both the Maximus VII GENE and the Z170 PRO:

Is it worth spending more on a motherboard for all the bells and whistles in your opinion?

Not worth it unless you will use the extra features. Performance wise they are basically all identical because its been a while since motherboard really effected overclocking.

Only reason I would pay more for a motherboard is for the looks, and weather it matches the color scheme im going for.

CMOS maintain system settings in BIOS. This includes set time, which is useful for laptops. It does a lot more, but that's just one function.

yeah but that second one looks to have much better power phase cooling.

Yes, but I doubt a company like asus would skimp on that enough for it to be a problem. It will be powering intel chips, which are not very power hungry, so I doubt the power componentry would get too hot even with the small heatsink.
