Hello,

I have here, an i3 330m. Intel says it goes in BGA1288 AND PGA988. Can I stick an i7 3920xm in there? I've heard about g1 and g2 and rPGA988A and I have no idea what those are.

A: Have you not googled it? Are you sure StackOverflow doesn't have an answer? Does the error tell you what's wrong? If the answer is no to all of those, message me.

No. You can go up to an i7 640m, but I don't know what your laptops power rating is, so that may even be too much,

FCPGA988 (Socket G2) and PGA988 (Socket G1) are different sockets, even though they have similar names. One pin is in a different location, so they aren't compatible.

BGA - Ball Grid Array

PGA - Pin Grid Array

BGA requires special equipment to replace the CPU because it is usually soldered onto the motherboard
