Hi there guys,

I was pretty sure of buying the ROG RAIDR till I read this Hardware.info review where they say that.... well... it almost sucks.

Right now I own 2 x Samsung 840 Pro (256GB) and I was thinking that the RAIDR was even better than 2 x 840Pro in RAID0 (The 840 Pro lose TRIM), but actually it seems that's even worse than a single Samsung 840 Pro.

The RAIDR is hitting the shelves right now and that review is from April, I don´t know if anything has change.

Anyone already has it? Anyone thinking in getting one? Any other thoughts?

It's expected that the future 480 model comes with 4 RAID0 modules (4x120 instead of 2x120) which (if the price is good) could improve performance and be more interesting.

Thanks

It probably won't be worth it right now as two Samsung 840 Pro's are very fast as it is and Sata 3 is barely any slower than PCI-E SSD's

The reviews from April are of the engineering samples Asus sent out to reviewers. As far as I have heard they had some massive problems with UEFI compatibility, and that is why they took so long before releasing it.

I don't personally think it is worth it over your 840 Pros.

why would you want to buy that asus thing? There are manufacturers out there building  PCIe SSDs for years...they do a better job than Asus. I would wait 1-2 generations befor buying something like this from an inexperienced brand.

Mushkins Scorpion Deluxe 480GB costs 600€ and reads/writes with 2GB/s, or OCZs RevoDrive 3 is a bit cheaper and slower. Samsungs 1TB 840 EVO goes for 500€

I don't see the point of buying a PCIe SSD as a normal consumer

My reasons were:

- Announced as faster than SSD's.

- Trim support

- PCIe, no cables.

- Reasonable price: 300€.

Would be like a SSD RAID0 but with trim support, all in one and PCIe interface (no cables)

My disappointment is that it isn't like a SSD RAID0 in performance. Actually it seems worse than single high end SSD.

I would like some PCIe 800+ MB/s but 600€ it's a little high priced.

BTW, the others PCIe units are UEFI compatible too?

Read you
