Machine_Check error after not using pc for a while

Hi guys,

here's my issue:

When I boot up my PC after not using it for a couple of hours, I always get an error, saying machine_check (exception or error I can't remember). When I then long-press the power button, and then push it again to shut down and restart, everything works fine.

I've tried searching on the web, but I couldn't find much. Anyone have an idea what the issue could be?

I'm running windows 10 Pro x64, i5-2500k on 4.2Ghz (this overclock has been stable for ages) and a decent power supply. All my temps are fine too, nothing ever goes over 75°C.

Cooler Master 690 II Advanced - I5 2500K @ 4.5Ghz - Geil Enhance Plus 1750Mhz 8Gb - ASUS ENGTX 570 DCUII - MSI Z68aGD65 - Scythe Mugen 2 Rev. B - Samsung 830 128gb and Crucial m4 128gb - much other stuff not worth mentioning

Im going to try to help but i cannot guarantee anything so sorry ahead of time.

  1. How long has this been happening?
  2. Does it happen consistently enough to give us the real error codes?
  3. Did you upgrade to Win10 or clean install?

Lets start with that.

Intel Core i7-6700k | 2 X Gigabyte 4GB GTX 970 Overclocked Edition | 16GB (4X4GB) DDR4 2133MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum | MasterCase Pro 5

ASUS Z170 Deluxe Motherboard | 256GB Samsung 840 Pro + Seagate 2TB Storage | Corsair Hydro H80i GT | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | Corsair HX850i

Thanks for the reply.

1. A week or two I think (maybe since a Windows update?)

2. It always happens after having the computer boot up normally. So when I'm in windows and I need to restart, it'll BSOD 100% of the time, but when I then manually reboot it it works fine.

3. Clean install of W10, but the install is a couple of months old. I'm thinking about doing a clean install if there's not really any particular thing I can fix.
