I was looking to get a laptop for school and so far I have narrowed it down to a few choices:

  1. Inspiron 15-3541
  2. Inspiron 15-5545
  3. Lenovo Z50 (Hoping for price drop)
  4. Acer Aspire E 15 E5-573G-52G3
My budget is $528 USD, I mainly use these applications:

  1. Paint.net
  2. Visual Studio 2015
  3. Microsoft Office
Aside from work I also play some games, mainly BO3.

I would also like to mirror the laptop screen to my 1920x1080@60Hz screen.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

P.s. I am looking to pick this up for Black Friday.

Get a macbook... jk jk lol

But really, they both aren't the best of options

the 5545 has an awful processor but a decent screen, memory capacity and hard drive space I suppose

The 3541 has a less awful processor with a worse screen, less memory but the same amount of storage :P

I guess its up to you, but something like the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 would be a good bit better for your money and in your use cases

But you really want a better display than a $500 laptop is going to offer if your doing any color sensitive work like photoshop or visual studio to be honest with you

I personally would say save your money and try to get a better laptop for around $1000 that would be a lot better for the work your needing done, like honestly a Thinkpad L540 or an Aspire S7

its a lot easier for people to help if you include links to the laptops or include quick specs on them. both of those laptops are extremely under powered and you would be lucky if you got bo3 to launch. photoshop will be a slow mess but the other 3 will be fine. you need a dedicated GPU if you want any chance at gaming.

Updated post.

I've seen people game on similar spec laptops, I'm not a graphic person and really don't care about screen resolution, Once it plays good and has good game-play, i'll play the game

What would you recommend?

Photoshop is basically for small edits I would use my PC for all major edits.

The Inspiron I mentioned would be my personal choice for a small budget like that, but really I'm confused as to the purpose of this laptop now :P

Is this for gaming? or Photoshop work? Or just something portable?

From your original post, it seemed like you wanted a jack of all trades for a very low price (Which is a difficult thing to find)

I took out the Photoshop from the original post, really any photo editor would do the trick (Not paint). Its main use would be for Visual Studio and Microsoft Office, It would be nice if it could also play games.

you can't game on a .5GHz laptop CPU.. im not saying it isn't going to look that great, im saying it isn't going to run at all.

I believe they both support DX11, If I can play games on my pc (specs bellow), I can play on this.

CPU: i5-2320

Ram: 8GB

OS: Windows 10

GPU: Intergrated

i say get the latter one

  1. Inspiron 15-5545

i think it is good laptop for what you need. nothing special but i doubt gaming will be anything pleasant on both of them.

i think Lenovo Z5070 will be a better option. : http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/lenovo/z-series/z50/

if you are a really a laptop gamer you wont find anything special at this price point

Laptop looks good, hoping it goes down for Black Friday

Not really a gamer I don't care about graphics, so anything would work for me.

Thanks for the suggestion (Added to post).

Once its able to play games (60 or 30 fps) I really don't care about anything else.

It's a slight stretch for gaming.

I mainly play BO3

Black Ops 3? Yeah. No - You want AT LEAST a 850M GDDR5 to run that

What settings would that be at?

Not sure - don't have the game to test but I assure you that a APU won't work with it very well.
