Hi guys!

So a friend of mine has a ''little'' problem. Since a few hours ago his PC crasht out of nowhere while idle no blue screens etc.

When he tries to reboot the pc his PSU and VGA and harddisks etc do show signs of life but his case fans etc do not turn on. Could this be due to dead hardware etc ?

If there is need for more info like pc specs just ask.

Thanks in advance!

No fans is a big problem. I would check to be sure the wall outlet is working, and then look to your PSU as a possible culprit. Hopefully it isnt blown because PSUs are known to take a few parts with them when they go :(

Intel Core i7-6700k | 2 X Gigabyte 4GB GTX 970 Overclocked Edition | 16GB (4X4GB) DDR4 2133MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum | MasterCase Pro 5

ASUS Z170 Deluxe Motherboard | 256GB Samsung 840 Pro + Seagate 2TB Storage | Corsair Hydro H80i GT | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | Corsair HX850i

The fan of the PSU is still spinning. could it still be the PSU when it does this ?i have had first hand expirience with a faulty PSU and it fried my Mobo and CPU at the same time :/

He also tried another outlet and that didnt help either

Well as THIS article suggests, it says to test the power supply, and if that fan spins its working. This is good news. Your PSU seems fine.

It sounds like a motherboard. DO you have another system you can check parts in?

Also be sure all connectors are connected tightly to the board.

Most of these problems have a root cause a failiing or misoperating PSU, 90% of the time. If the machine is able to POST and you hear the characteristic "beep" sound, then we need to check other things. If you hear a long beep followed by quick short beeps, then most likely some of the RAM may be faulty (or the memory banks). If you hear prolonged beeps with a break in between them, then it is the GPU. If no beep at all comes out of the box, then remove it from the power outlet, let it about 2-3 mins out of power in order to let the capacitors to discharge (if you want to speed up the process and wait for about a minute, press the power on button, while you have it out of power. This will try to power up the system, draining the capacitors charge quicker). If all the above fail, remove all parts from the motherboard, except the CPU and try to boot it so you can see if it POSTS. If it does, try to add each of the components, one at a time and try to power it on to check each component for functionality.
