Weird GPU naming - quick question.

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

It is well known that there are mutliple versions of almost all GPU's and that it creates general confusion for a typical gamer such as myself.

The question is simple.

ASUS GeForce GTX980Ti DirectCu 3 Strix OC

and

Asus GeForce GTX 980 Ti STRIX OC

Are these the exact same thing? What is DirectCu?

They are the same

DirectCU is the name of some of Asus coolers. (This is the DirectCU2).

But with the introduction of Maxwell, asus made the "Strix" coolers.

But the name of Asus's 980ti is BOTH DirectCU3 and Strix

DirectCu used to mean that there was only 1 fan.

Those 2 GPU-s are probably the same.

i5 4670k @ 4.2GHz (Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo); ASrock Z87 EXTREME4; 8GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 RAM @ 2133MHz; Asus DirectCU GTX 560; Super Flower Golden King 550 Platinum PSU;1TB Seagate Barracuda;Corsair 200r case.

DirectCu means direct copper contact with the GPU die (Cu is the elemental symbol for copper). The copper pipes are right on the GPU die without any other plates or whatever between them. It is just marketing wank. Look up reviews for each one (I think the strix fans go bad quickly) and see which one looks the best for you.
