Fallout 4 sudden performance drop

Hey guys, so i just started up fallout 4, and everything is so slow.

it took me almost 5 minutes to load in, and if i go to open a terminal/lockpick the screen takes about 15 seconds to actually change but during that time i can't do anything. and just before it froze completely for about 10 seconds.

since launch up until today i've been able to run this game fine, ultra, 60fps constantly and my gpu/cpu temps are in the 65-75 region.

does anyone know what i could so to solve this? i'm currently checking file integrity on steam but if that doesn't work any other suggestions? thanks :)

EDIT: sometimes gun sounds are 5-6 seconds delayed, and sometimes they don't come for a couple of minutes and there will just be loads of explosions when i'm just stood still. I've tried restarting the game 4-5 times but that hasn't helped at all.

What are your specs?

I'm now looking up which intl HD you would have. see EDIT:

EDIT: these:

  • CPU
    i7 4720HQ7
  • Graphcis solution
  •                                 Intel® HD Graphics 4600
  • RAM
    16gb
  • GPU
    GTX 970M
  •
  • Storage
    1tb 7200rpm
  •
  • Display(s)
    1920x1080 matte 15'6
  •
  • Keyboard
    Corsair K50
  • Mouse
    Corsair M95
  •
  • Operating System
    WIN 7 X64

When running IntelHD you really can't go up to 1080*1920, you could try running the game at 1900*600 low or 720P low.

wait, I just saw you also had a 970M, sorry didn't see that one directly. take a look if you might have accidentally disabled the 970M. otherwise update your drivers and take a look at the GPU usage %

Firstly have you verified the integrity of game cache?

Have you updated the drivers? If you did try to reinstall the drivers. Use DDU (Dispaly Driver Uninstaller) to unistall them. It will ask you to boot into safemode to uninstall them. After that reinstall the previous drivers from the manufacturers website.

i updated the drivers just the other day, and it's not disabled because once it's loaded i still get 60fps, it's just the sound is a bit off, and it laggs hard if i actually do anything, i can run around fine :(

I got my drivers from Nvidia Geforce experience and my cpu ones from the intel auto updater so i think they should be fine, but i might try re install them both to see if that fixes the issue, thanks for your suggestion :)

then the game cache would be the only thing I could think off. except maybe for a really really slow harddrive. Try defragging the FO4 files, this is a good free defragging tool: https://www.piriform.com/defraggler
