Screen Tearing...WTF?

Go to solution Solved by Guest Kloaked,

Screen tearing occurs when the amount of frames being output by the GPU doesn't match the refresh rate of the monitor. So even if you were to get a 144hz monitor, you will still have screen tearing. If you had a 980 Ti and enabled V-sync on a 1080p monitor, you will likely get screen tearing on demanding games since the 980 Ti will not always run at 60fps.

Some people will say "I don't notice screen tearing in muh games", but it's there. It just depends to what extent, but it's there.

Hello once again members of LTT, today I have another question:

So I was looking at some 1440p monitors for my 980ti (since ya know, card's a beast) and I saw the Asus pg278q. However, I then saw the price tag and then proceeded to go in a dark corner shedding tears of demolished hopes.

I then spent hours trying to find a good 1440p monitor, all of which either were a really high response time of were really expensive. Then, I thought about something. Why do people need to buy G-Sync or Freesync or even use V-sync in their monitors when they can use things like the Nvidia geforce experience thing were you can limit your maximum fps you can get in games. I understand people want Gsync if they don't want to limit their fps and want to get high fps, but for people like me that are fine with 60fps, is there a good 1440p 1ms response time monitor? Please tell me as I have been stumped by this thought for a while now.

Thanks as always.

PS:

If you can, please link a bunch of good 1440p monitors in your opinion, max $500 :)

If you look through eBay or craigslist, you could probably find one for less than $500.

The 980ti gets well over 100 fps on almost all games in 1080 besides non-optimized ones such as ARK etc., which is why I wanted a 1440p monitor :)

There's other things involved that G-Sync and FreeSync fix to make the viewing experience much smoother. You can find all that in a Google search though.

However, those monitors are only worth it if you have the money to spend (obviously, like with everything else).

This one I suppose: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236453

And I don't believe there is a difference. Some competitive people will swear up and down there is one, but I don't think you can discern one from the other.
