Hello guys. Recently I decided to update my PC for as cheap as possible. My current pc had -> has:

Intel dual-core E6300 @ 2.8Ghz -> Intel Xeon X5470  Quad core @ 3.33GHz (most people believe it's even better than the QX9770). Found it used for 47$

Added Kingston SSD V300 120GB for about 90$  (it was a while ago that's why its so expensive)

Changed the stock cooler to one from eBay which was like 18$ but the cpu still heats up quite a lot to 80-90C and 50C in idle so I decided to get 2 80mm fans to put in my case (1 in front intake and 2 in the back for exhaust) for about 4$. Hopefully that will cool things down a bit.

 s-l500.jpg

Had 2x2GB DDR3 so decided to get 2x2GB more to total 8GB RAM (which is the maximum that my motherboard supports) for 27$. But I've stumbled upon a problem. When I put the two extra RAM chips in the RAM slots I get bluescreens which made me think that either one or both of the RAM chips or the RAM slots are not working. BUT  when I went to My computer - Properties the system clearly detects that I have 8 GB ram. So I need your help guys. Why does my PC get all those bluescreens? What can I do to increase my RAM because currently I am stuck with just 4GB ram untill I can figure out how to stop the PC freeze with bluescreens.

Last but not least I am also considering upgrading my GPU but that would require a bit more money and I am not sure wether it will be a good decision or not. Currently I have an old GT9800 but I am thinking of getting a used 7970 Ghz Edition (or 280x which is basically the same) for about 140$ but since my Power supply isn't that good I guess I would need to upgrade that as well so I think I can get one for about 60$. Do you guys think my current CPU the X5470 will bottleneck the 7970ghz/280x or should I get something simpler like 7870 or 660Ti? Also if I do get a 7970ghz/280x since the gpus are so long I would have to cut out some of the extra Hard Drive slots but It's not that big of a deal since I'm not using them anyways.

You need a better cooler for that CPU, those temps are way to high; i mean my 4930k is OC to 4.5 and i only hit those temps under aida64 bench mark....

Have you checked the timing of all the sticks of ram, do they match up ( check the CAS latency)? Also are the speeds the same??

NO it won't bottle neck,

What PSU do you have in terms of wattage and manufacturer

And yes a GPU would be a good idea, after u get a much better cooler for the CPU like at least a 212 evo or higher.

The problem is that the Hyper 212 Evo is probably too big for my case since it's 16cm high and I wont be able to close my case. Are there other good smaller heatsinks other than the 212 evo?

The memory sticks have the same speed PC3-10600 1333Mhz. How do I check the timing and CAS latency???

Current PSU is unknown and 500W but I am guessing it's low quality since it's 5 years old and it was cheap at the time

Smaller, umm maybe but you want something that is gonna dissipate heat well, i'd have to have a little look

A) the pack the memory came in B) go into your motherboard and look for memory timings, or overclocking

B) Okay yeah, might need to look at a PSU upgrade to like something maybe by seasonic or corsair.

  • 2 weeks later...

That cooler won't fit my current case, but since it's black friday I decided to get a new case :D. Gonna get a used case Cougar Archon for 25$, new Corsair CX600 for 70$ and used R9 280X for about 150$. However the problem still remains with the bluescreens when all 4 of my RAM sticks are in use. Can you guys help me figure out what's causing the bluescreen? Should I do something in the BIOS? My motherboard is quite old but it does support 8GB 1600+ DDR3 RAM. All of my RAM sticks are at 1333 Mhz. I play Battlefield 4 first on one pair of the RAM sticks and it's working fine. Then I take them out and put the other RAM sticks on the other 2 channels and it's still okay. But when I add them to work together it works for a while and suddenly the bluescreen is back.... What could be the problem?
