Is this normal?

Go to solution Solved by tbroadwater2010,

Is it normal for my computer to slow down when my SSD starts to fill up?

I noticed chrome and stuff was slowing down and I looked at my storage on my SSD (120GB 840 Evo) and saw that only 20GB was left, I usually have about 40-50. I deleted some stuff and now its back to normal speed?

Is this a normal thing to happen? I can understand on a Hard drive but it seems odd to happen on an SSD

Short answer? Yes.

Long answer. Anything slows down when it starts to reach capacity. The SSD has to run through ALL of the data stored on it to find the data you want to use. Having less will obviously take it less time to search and find those data bits.

Yes. SSDs function best with lots of storage free :)

Well there we go then, thanks guys, I think a new SSD will be needed soon as 120GB is definitely not enough!

I actually had a good deal on a 120GB drive and laughed at it because i knew it wouldnt be enough for me even as just a boot drive. So yeah go get a 256GB or more if you can afford it. the more the better!

Probably be next year when I upgrade my CPU and Mobo as I'll have to reinstall Windows 10 anyway due to the switch!
