Hey guys,

So the past few days I've been skeptical of many things on my computer. Norton Full System Scan doesn't show anything as a keylogger, but my Steam account's password was changed while I was at school. Also on another game, Maplestory, my account has been hacked and compromised by someone else. Can anyone help me figure out what is going on?

Thank you,

DeathStreak

When in doubt, reformat.

Norton is bad (at least last I heard of) get somththing like malwarebytes. Then launch your computer in safe mode, no network. And run a scan.

It's not that it's bad, it's just that I can't detect anything made after the version of Norton you're using was made. EX:Having a 2010 version of Norton, and a new virus from 2015 getting into your computer.

Anything else I could do :o, there's a lot of stuff I would have to transfer.

Try Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Try downloading free antivirus software, such as Avast and/or Malwarebytes.

This this this! At least work from that. If you still think something is going on, repost a thread with us three (@Fulgrim @GalacticRuler @Dossium) tagged in it for some troubleshooting.

PS: Do a FULL scan while offline with whichever. Not Quick scan. That is just kinda worthless.

Does it have to be without internet

Think of it this way.

If some person has gained access to every mouse click and keypress, and is connected via network/internet, you'd want to take away their power to interfere. Right?

Do whatever though.

Make sure you go into all your accounts and change the passwords using nothing less than 25 character alphanumeric combinations. Make sure you keep these stored somewhere that is not on your pc (or cloud) but an encrypted thumbdrive is good.

Do this soon. It will help if they already know your passwords. I strongly suggest you start using a VPN if your being targeted for key logging.

Also after you run the maleware and antivirus you may want to frag your drives and reinstall all your OS and software again.

What does a VPN do?

Essentially encrypts your connection across the internet. Watch the video below.

It is not a solve all but it will help.

I suggest PIA.com (Private Internet Access) or TunnelBear.com

DO NOT change your password on the compromised PC. Make sure to do it on a different one.

Thanks I'm going to do that right now. Is there anything else I can use to detect a keylogger or find out how this person is getting my information?

Hard to say really. One way is to use an access logger (tracks all incoming and outgoing traffic from your pc and the internet) but those can be expensive.

One other thing you could and should do is if your sites support it is to use the 2 stage verification for logging in. Those can be helpful as well.

Once you start using a VPN it will help defeat the interceptions of your connection a lot.
