fx6300: 6 eugh cores: better for multi-threaded work loads (rendering an stuff)

i3 has better per core performance. i3 would have a better upgrade path due to the i5s and i7s using the same sockets.

I would say FX 6300 UNLESS you plan on upgrading in the near future. How much money are you putting into the build? Are you upgrading an older rig?

Why? if he's gaming/webrowsing the i3 will be faster because games don't make much use of higher core counts, and much more use of higher single core performance.

Fallout 4 is a great example on how they are taking advantage of the core count, but yes in this guys case it seems like simple games so the i3 might be a better option. If he he doing a lot of multi tasking thought then ehhhh hard to tell cause the 6300 kicks ass in that department. Also we have no idea what/if he has an older rig he is upgrading or what so idk until he tells us.
