My router/modem is in my kitchen with our 'house computer'. I have a Ethernet cable that runs through our basement to my room for my computer. But I'm getting an Xbox one soon and I am going to need another Ethernet cable so I don't have to unplug it each time. I saw this on Newegg and thought it could help me?

But I'm pretty sure I need an 'Input' and just like 3 'Outputs'.

Does anyone have any recommendations or any ideas?

It will work. I'd go for a Gigabit switch though, just incase you need the speed for local transfers.

Also, that is a switch, not a hub. The two are different things.

EDIT: For Switches, all of the ports are input/output, they're not directional, so it doesn't matter where you plug them in.

EDIT2: Changed the link to the Gigabit version, Newegg's title was wrong.

Yea, a switch would be much better. I have one, and I'm glad I go it.

Should I go with that item you linked?

That's what I'd go for. It supports Gigabit speeds (might not be useful for you right now, but the support is there.

Do they get better as they go up in price or are they pretty much the same just with more ports? I don't mind spending a little bit more if it adds some more power to it.

For home networking stuff, it doesn't really matter. It's only worth spending money on the more expensive stuff when you have large networks that need specific hardware and management tools.

For what you're doing, any unmanaged gigabit switch will do. Spending more might get you a nice metal housing, but will do nothing for performance.

he switch in the above link is not gigabit (the product overview on newegg is incorrect). The FS205 is 10/100

This is the GS205 10/100/1000

So it is. I didn't notice that, I'll change the link.

@JacobiYounger hopefully you haven't ordered it yet
