Black Ops 3 Benchmark

simo292a

The 390x is clocked 50Mhz higher on core and 250mhz higher on vram. But I didn't expect the difference to be that big as well.

Yeah its crazy i know the 390x has 8gb of vram and its using 6 almost 7 of my vram in game, but it should not result in such a big performance increase.

well when I hit my vram limit in gta v

My fps tanks for 130 to 50s

So if the 290x is the 4gb one then that's ur answer

Yeah but how does that make sense when other 4gb cards from nvidia are doing fine?

GCN 1.1 doesn't feature compression like Maxwell and GCN 1.2 - hence the more efficient use of the 4GB on the 980 and 3.5GB on the 970 - that can only get you so far though - the 8GB 390/390X still has 8GB, no amount of compression can double your memory. I've noticed a decrease in VRAM usage on my 860M (GM107) of about 400Mb on average.

There is cram compression and some things that are in the vram and aren't used often are offloaded on the ram and brought back before there needed so there's no stutter

Not sure 100 how it works but it's driver related
