I'm buying a new monitor, which res should i pick?

 

2560x1080

or

2560x1440

 

how much performance drop will there be going from current 1080p to 1440p?

 

(i5 4590 + R9 390)

What screen size? 2560 x 1080 looks shite above 27".

i'll stick with this one

watched some 1440p benchmarks

and i could get 30-40fps in new games maxed out

so.... oooooooooooooooo no no no, I'll just stay with 1080p, for now

No. Above. A higher screen size has a lower pixel density. 2560 x 1080 looks worse on a larger monitor than a smaller one.

i want a big screen

i don't think there will be so much worse picture than on 25''

There's a fairly large difference. If you want a larger screen, it's better to consider a higher resolution, as well due to a discernable difference in PPI.
