hi, i have an i5 3570k, a z77s-gd65 motherboard 4 sticks of 4 gbs corsair vengeance ram at 1600 mhz xmp and i want to overclock my cpu at 4.2 ghz, i don't want that it always stays at that frequency, only when the moltiplier gose up, thanks,

here is a good starter guide on overclocking 1155 platform CPUs.

 

 

to allow the CPU to underclock with no load/idle you would not change any of the

"C-States" commands and verify the OS power options as balanced with the CPU

minimum power state as 5-10%.

You can overclock it through the bios like normal. Intwl speedstep and vdroop should maje the frequency go down when not using all then power.
