I want to buy a camera that is good for both pictures and videos but dont want to spend to much around 200 to 300 thanks

I'm looking for a point and shoot that's basically matches what you're looking for. So far this is the camera that I'm looking at purchasing sometime soon.

I highly suggest the Canon Rebel XT it is a pretty old camera and it is perfect for a beginner it is what i use it is simple durable and is awesome i am pretty sure it is about $200 or cheaper and i suggest buying a used one i promise you will fall in love with it good luck...

I personally would go with the Canon powershot model that Dudenstein suggested. Getting more modern tech is better than going older tech because it's cheaper.

 

The Canon Rebel XT is really old, it just isn't worth investing in it. It only has 8MP sensor compared to the 16MP sensor that the powershot one has.

 

 

If his budget is 300 dollars right now, I don't think he is thinking about investing in lenses later on.

If you are looking to get into a bit more advanced photography and you don't mind getting used and slightly older stuff I would recommend either the Panasonic GF2 @ $250 USD w/14mm lens:

Like a Panasonic DMC FZ range or the Canon Powershot SX range or similar?

 

I used to have the FZ150, loved it. I then upgraded to a Canon 600d and a Canon 17-40 F4 L, love it.
