The 3820 has a partially locked multiplier but with BCLK overcloclocking and CPU strap you can probably push it to 4.3GHz or so. That being said I would go with the 3930k if you're going to be doing any kind of cpu intensive tasks because it has 2 more cores, thus 4 more logical cores, and is basically just a monster CPU.

Workstation: 3930k @ 4.3GHz under an H100 - 4x8GB ram - infiniband HCA  - xonar essence stx - gtx 680 - sabretooth x79 - corsair C70 Server: i7 3770k (don't ask) - lsi-9260-4i used as an HBA - 6x3TB WD red (raidz2) - crucia m4's (60gb (ZIL, L2ARC), 120gb (OS)) - 4X8GB ram - infiniband HCA - define mini  Goodies: Røde podcaster w/ boom & shock mount - 3x1080p ips panels (NEC monitors for life) - k90 - g9x - sp2500's - HD598's - kvm switch

You don't need a i7 for gaming. You could just get a i5 3570k for gaming. If you want to overclock, get the 3930k because it has a unlocked multiplier.

The 3930K and 3820 are two completely different cpus. 3930K is 6 core, 3820 is 4 core.

If you are looking for a overclockable 3820 get the 3770K for $320.

The 3820 does have quad channel memory support compared to the 3770K's 2 channel, but I would go for the 3770K because you can overclock it.

CPU: AMD 3950x Mobo: MSI B550 RAM: 32GB DDR4 GPU: Asus 3080 Strix PSU: Superflower Leadex 3 720w Case: BeQuiet 500DX

Storage: 2TB SSD + 4TB HDD Audio: SMSL 793ii -> HiFiman HE-400 + Mission MS-50 Speakers

If you are going to be video editing go for the 3930K, if gaming 3820.

Although you haven't told us what you plan to be doing you seem pretty determined to be on the 2011 platform. You'll be able to get a hefty overclock out of the 3820 even though it's partially locked, you can push it easily to 4.2 ghz stable. Although if you only plan on gaming I would again strongly suggest going with the LGA1155 platform and saving money with an i5.

Since I don't quite understand what you meant in your last post, I can just lay it down like this.

If you're only gaming, go with the i5 3570k. If you're gaming and also working with some programs that will benefit from hyperthreading, then go with the i7 3770k. If you are doing some intensive professional stuff, go with the 3930k.

There's nothing to be worried about with 1155 other than that Ivy Bridge processors run rather hot.

but the thing is that i have seen a video on linus tech tips ther he sead that every soket out of 2011 gona be bga instead of lga witch means that the cpu is on the motherboard and thats what scares me of 1155
That's like years down the road, socket 1155 will be outdated by then anyway.
