Using HOTAS in Kerbal Space Program?

I tried using my Warthog in KSP a while ago and it was a pain in the dick to set up, has anyone got a hotas setup working in KSP? I think I tried before version 1.0, if not it was still months ago but a id like to know before investing the time to get it working.
