cannot access drive from other computer, HELP MEEE !

Go to solution Solved by JkB_SlH,

What kind of password she had ? , a partition decryption ? or a windows password ?

What kind of operating system you currently have ? (the old one is Vista , what is the new one ? ubuntu ?)

In Linux you can't make sure that HD is not corrupted for sure by opening the S.M.A.R.T data of the hard drive using ubuntu "disks" app

ohh boy.. so my mom's old (super super old) dell laptop is dead, and it's not the hard drive. she wanted me to transfer her files onto her new laptop but it's been harder than ever with this one.

here's what you need to know:

- it was running vista

- it's plugged in the docking bay of my Case (silverstone ft-03, Molex powered)

- she was using a password

- it's a seagate 320gb 5400rpm.

here's what I already tried :

-i have permissions and i'm the owner on my system.

-tried accessing it from a ubuntu live disk.

I doubt it's corrupt because I could see the filenames when changing permissions, plus there are 2 partition, OS & Recovery, and I can access the files on Recovery but I want the ones i OS.

your help would be much appreciated.

You should just be able to copy and paste the data.  Then it wont matter as long as it wasn't encrypted.  Just using a password to log into Windows, doesn't do anything for your data.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!
