Which SSD Is Best?

Go to solution Solved by Curufinwe_wins,

If someone could just clarify which one is better I'd really appreciate it (trying to buy it as we speak). Either the Sandisk

http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=16951100519

or Adata sp550

or Crucial BX100 (seems to be slower than the other options)

http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/SanDisk-Ultra-II-240GB-vs-Crucial-BX100-250GB/2548vs3145

The above isn't perfect, but it should tell you what you need to know.

As to the adata drive, it is a little bit worse than the equivalent sp610 so I have that comparison listed:

http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Adata-Premier-SP610-256GB-vs-Crucial-BX100-250GB/3281vs3145

Crucial is also arguably one of the best brands out there for customer support, but for SSD's that really shouldn't matter at all (considering their ssd's are renowned for their reliability)

I'm located in Ontario, Canada. Purchased a Dell Inspiron Laptop and will be adding in a SSD, here are my options:

ADATA SP550 240gb:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211984&cm_re=adata_sp550-_-20-211-984-_-Product

SanDisk Z400s 256gb:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0D9-0006-00090

Mushkin Enhanced ECO2 240gb:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226679

Patriot Blast 240gb:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220937

or the Samsung 850 evo 120gb:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147371&cm_re=samsung_120gb_850_evo-_-20-147-371-_-Product

Please note I will only look at links that end in .CA *relevancy*

and this drive will be my only drive in my laptop, so I'm hesitant to buy a 120gb ssd...Its not going to be having plenty of games, mostly school stuff/music.

I keep hearing mixed reviews on the Adata and Patriot SSD...I'd like to get the 850 evo 240gb but it costs too much after tax/shipping...My budget is $130 CAD AFTER shipping/tax

So please help me pick the best one for my laptop

Prices include shipping and tax where applicable.

But I'd personally recommend a BX100 250GB.

120GB ssds are MUCH worse than their 250 GB counterparts and the 850 Evo is no exception.

despite it being only 120gb? You still suggest it over 240gb models, correct?

No. 120GB ssds, are not only much less cost efficient, but they are much slower than their 250 GB companions.

Yes. Definitely. If it's just a boot and app drive, you're good to go with that.

It's worth it over the others unless OP is using it for mass storage.

If you need the 240GB, just go with a Crucial.

You're looking at a $20 or so difference between 240GB and 120GB. The EVO is nice, but it's not worth the cost if he can get double the capacity for only a little more. There's also the issue of 120GB SSDs being a fair bit slower than their larger counterparts, so the performance difference is not as big as it would be between equal capacities.

Excuse me do not you see the literally 50% worse in almost half of those tests? That is fucking huge. Not to mention that the 250GB model literally costs 20 cad more for 2x the storage.

Buying 120 GB ssd's is idiotic.

Not worth it over 240GB models. Something like a  Crucial BX100 240GB would be better.

Samsung is best in terms of performance,

If you're concerned about space then go with the SanDisk imo

I am somewhat worried that 120gb of storage may be a little limiting in the long run...I would rather opt for a 240gb ssd even if the performance isn't as good, as long as its not turtle slow... NCIX seems to be buggy as usual, atleast for me. Whenever i try to purchase the SSD (discount price ends today) it says there is a runtime error and  I can't check the price after tax...

If someone could just clarify which one is better I'd really appreciate it (trying to buy it as we speak). Either the Sandisk

or Adata sp550

or Crucial BX100 (seems to be slower than the other options)

It seems that 4k writes/reads are very bad on both ssds...is that referring to 4k (UHD) files? can i simply ignore that? I just want a drive that is faster than the 5400 rpm hdd that comes with my laptop...much faster...so far no solid answers to be honest, still unsure about all of these drives.

4k are the super small files, and not in queue. Trust me an HDD is way way worse even at that.

Here is a comparison I did of crystal diskmark with 2 ssds and my 7200 rpm hgst drive.
