I recently built a new Desktop PC and I'm seeing rather low fps numbers in games.

Windows 7 Professional 64bit

PC parts:

  • Intel Core i7-4790k
  • Asus Z97-A
  • Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB
  • WD 2TB Black
  • EVGA GTX 980 Ti Hybrid
  • EVGA SuperNova 1200W P2

ASUS ROG SWIFT PG278Q monitor, set up for 144Hz.

I tried running League of Legends recently and it seems that I doesn't matter whether I set all settings to Low or High, I always get ~70fps.
I have V-Sync disabled and fps selected as uncapped, G-Sync is on.

Tried benchmarking the GPU on FurMark 1080 Preset and got 5844 points.

I've also tried playing the game on my old ASUS N53SN laptop, and I always got ~120-160fps there.

Are there any issues with my set up or why so low fps numbers?

I also seem to had a bent pin on my motherboard, but after all stress testing it doesn't seem to affect performance, so I'm guessing the motherboard is working fine.

Not really, but I have had other issues with my computer, like laggy boot up and so forth, just trying to make sure whether everything is fine.

I've set 'Advanced Settings > Monitor > Screen refresh rate' to 144 Hertz aswell.

What is wrong with FurMark?

Do a firestrike normal run (1080p) and post your results. That would help evaluate the performance you are getting better.

SCORE 12535 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti(1x) and Intel Core i7-4790K

Is this the one I had to get?

Your graphics score seems low to me.

The card was overclocked in that run? How much was it boosting to? I see you have the cpu @ 4.3ghz.

I was getting 15524 score (19451 gfx score vs your 14917) while only boosting to 1420Mhz. I would try reinstalling the latest drivers, wiping the previous ones with DDU software.

Is this a new OS install, or just upgraded the parts inside and updated the drivers on old OS?

1412-1420 core clock, nothing extreme. Your hybrid should be boosting by default to 1370-1400 range if i'm not mistaken. Check your msi afterburner / gpuz reading on what the max boost is during a 3dmark (game) run.

I haven't overclocked anything yet.

My GPU boosted to 1329MHz as it seems.

The OS has been freshly installed yesterday.

Looks good temp wise from those graphs i can make out. I don't see any throttling, card is boosting fine.

Definately a low score though. Does gpuz show the link speed as x16 3.0?

Haven't used win7 for ages but i got a lower score then with my old 8.1 when i tried. I am now on win10. Maybe you could try a fresh 8.1 pro / win10 install and see how it goes with that one and the latest nvidia drivers 358.59.

GPU-Z shows PCI-E 3.0 x16

I've tried setting a little bit of an overclock on the GPU, nothing drastic, just like your shows 110% power and put +20MHz on Core Clock. Just as the benchmark finished - it crashed.

I do have to point out, that when my motherboard arrived, it seems that it was already opened. I'm starting to think that the motherboard might be acting weird.

Weird. +20mhz should not have crashed. I see you've got more then enough power in there also.

Do you have the latest bios on for you motherboard?

Version 2601 is the latest. You should see it in cpu-z / mainboard tab.

They noted it improved system stability so maybe it could help... lol

That's why I'm starting to think that I was sent a faulty motherboard. There were signs that it was already opened + missing some screws (screws packet was opened and some screws were all over in the box) + cpu pin was bent.

BIOS 2401 version. Need to google how to update BIOS.

You should have the ez update asus software thing on the cd. That's how it's called for my x99 sabertooth.

Mobo should be fine if everything is up and running. Don't know how it could degrade performance unless you are crashing all over the place in games & stuff.

BTW: not a gsync user here. Does it cap the framerate at 144? Did you ever see over 144 fps in the 3dmark run?

Put an 3dm ultra run also to compare when pushing it harder. That way the gsync 144fps stuff will be out of the question :)

found a 1472 boost run to compare

I don't actually have a CD-ROm.. Kinda hoped I don't need it.

I've never reached 144fps on 3dmark.

This is a picture of ultra 3d.

Damn. The overclock alone can't account for that. I'm just sorry i didn't save a screenshot of a default clocks firestrike run (i only have oc ones)... I'd say it's a software issue. Try the latest bios for your mb or better yet win8.1 /win 10 pro

I can't explain why but i got shit results myself with clean win7 install when i tried. I was trying to gain better scores then windows 10 and thought win7 would definately be faster and give more points but didn't happen... lost almost 2000 points and deleted the install on the spot... lol

That was the main reason I went for Win7, expected higher results overall.

Will try to update BIOS, but I don't expect significant results...

Yeah... i'm on the original first release bios myself and don't feel like updating since everything's working well here. Guess 8.1 is where it's at for these cards.

Alright, will try upgrading to Win 8.1 at first,. probably will do it tomorrow, since now it's rather late.

Thanks for your help!
