Help with RAID - Did I do it right?

Go to solution Solved by ShadowCaptain,

That sucks man! :(

no it's 2x 4TB drives, but they show up as 2x <2 TB drives in disk management. That doesn't seem right to me?

no it doenst

you could try setting up raid through intels RST software

Hello,

so I set up a RAID 1 array on the intel controller of my mobo with 2 WD RED 4TB. After getting windows 7 to boot normally again (AHCI vs RAID driver issue), I can see 2 disks in disk management, both of 1677.9GB.

Did I do it right? Shouldn't I be seeing 1 drive of +-4TB instead?

Also, I have a dualboot situation going on with win7/win10. Will I be able to get into the array on win 10?

Greetings,

Stef

Hello,

How does it appear under "computer" on your PC?

and you are sure you selected raid 0? (dont know why you want to RAID 0 two reds?)

They don't show up there, yet, since for now they are unallocated disks.

I put them in RAID 1.

If they are in RAID 1, then you will only see a single 2TB drive

You probably mean a 4TB drive, since it's 2 WD RED 4TB.

That's the thing, there are 2 2TB drives in disk management (like shown in the screenshot I linked), not 1 4TB drive...

In order for windows to use hard drives larger than 2 terabytes the drive must be setup as a GPT disk

No, RAID 1 is mirrored, meaning 2TB mirrored on another 2TB drive - you only get 2TB of storage

RAID 0 =  4 TB

RAID 1 = 2TB
