Hello, I've been thinking about building a cheap gaming computer. My budget is $1,600. I have already searched for some cheap items on pcpartpicker, however some of the items I have added seem a little too good to be true. First off, could someone tell me if there is a catch on this CPU:

Manufacturer

AMD Model FX-9590

The reason I ask if there is a catch is because it is only $220

Secondly, is it compatible/safe/smart to use with this motherboard?

Manufacturer

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

which this motherboard is only $120

The catch? It'll melt your board. Because 220W TDP and it comes with a watercooler stock xD

WAIT "cheap gaming computer" at $1,600? Are you fucking kidding? (Oh wait depends, which currency @Alexware?)

For that price I would lean towards a 4690k if you're open to going Intel.

the catch is its AMD and their cores arent powerful, and if you hooked up a close loop cooler to the arctic ocean using carbon fiber tubes they would still melt.

The 9590 is a joke. It has a ridiculous power draw, which would melt some motherboards and draw much more power. While it may not have a huge impact on your power bill it's relatively difficult to cool and can be dangerous.

Sig under construction.

my brother and i joke that a 9590 wouldn't be cooled by a 5 foot diameter titanium-carbon fiber pipe that feeds from the arctic ocean and radiates in the Canadian winter, and would melt down the nuclear reactor powering the pump

I've actually considered the 9590 because it would be a nice thing for heating my room in the winter. But seriously, you can cool it with a good 240mm+ radiator or with an NH-D14/15. There is still the concern of getting a good motherboard for it, getting a case with good airflow and getting power to it.

just buy a heater, it will be more effective and use less power.

because EVERYTHING uses less power than the 9590

The FX-9590 does pretty well in very heavily multi-threaded tasks like video editing, but the catch is that it generally performs well under it's asking price everywhere else. You can forget about it competing with even a locked 3.x GHz Core i5 in most games. Sometimes it's no better than an i3 in particularly poorly-threaded games (source).

It's potentially a cheap alternative to an i7 in a budget editing workstation, but then you have to consider it's stupendously poor efficiency and the fact that the 80 Watt Xeon E3 1231v3 is faster for only a bit more. And you can use a cheap motherboard.

^ Compatibility list for the GA-990FXA-UD3 lists no FX-9 series processors.

But can a heater do desirable calculations?

because EVERYTHING uses less power than the 9590

Not everything. We have some 2000W heaters that we use in particularly cold parts of winter.

a hater can do calculations if you use it to heat steam fr a steam-powered calculator

also, 9590 still uses more

EDIT: or a heater even, a hater cannot do calculations unless they stop hating
