WiFi ethernet switch

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

I don't have a bridge. I just want to know if it works at all

I believe that is possible but it would require software to enable the ability to use the wifi in the PC and Ethernet port to fwd data to the other PC's and have it act somewhat like a router in itself. The main thing with this is that PC will always need to be on to be able to do this compared to a router setup in wireless bridge mode.

This is not mission critical. I just want to see if this works.

This is a drawing of what I'm thinking about

The PC with wifi is connected to the router and an ethernet switch with a PC on it. IDK if this is practical. I know you can share full internet wirelessly but I want to connect ethernet devices to a wifi connected pc.

Is this possible?

You are on a need to know basis, and you don't need to know.

There are ways to setup most routers to get a wireless connection to other devices that use wired connections via a wireless bridge without using a PC in between.

pretty sure the PC will get confused between which network is the main and which one it should be forwarding packets from.  Worth a shot, but it won't simply work plug and play style AFAIK.  I'd look for some dedicated software; perhaps pfSense running in a VM with directed IO to the ethernet card going to the switch and since VM's generally forward the wireless connection to the VM as ethernet; would could define the "ethernet" link in pf as an internet connection for you pfSense VM router.  Sorry if that was a bit confusing lol

Thanks. Will look into it. Figure 7, 8, and 9 are really helpful

I know signal repeating isn't too bad I've tried it before when I had issues connecting certain devices to some networks or bad signals to boost them.
