How does hardware encryption work? ex: http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-850-evo-series-mz-75e250b-am-17-104175-1277.htm

I once had a flash drive with which I had to input a password every time I plug it in - is it similar to that or is it an other more different thing? If I were to install the drive in another system, would I be able to view the files on it; would I need to put in a code or password or something?

Thanks for your help! :D
