You may know this guy, you may not. Basically he is a famous guardian writer who served 20 years in prison for apparent assault and manslaughter in 1984 due to a mugging. Well he came into my school and gave a great speech on how the prison system sucks in the UK and US (he has done news reports on there as well). He calls prison culture "one of punishment and not reform". I think of it as a school detention: bullies get detention and then re-offend, just like the majority of short term prison convicts here in the UK. I agree what he had to say, as he praised the system in Norway, as it is one of reform and not punishment. A person cannot spend more than 21 years in prison and almost none re-offend due to their great rehabilitation and education system in the prisons there.

What are your thoughts on this, and the thoughts on the prison system in your area?

And yes: the last question that my friend asked was comedy gold: Are guys hench in Prison?

LOL

I guess there is the odd story here of someone who has changed their life after serving time, but we all know it's rare. The system here isn't all country club as many people believe.
