What is the difference?

It is an IPS G-Sync Monitor and it will work better with your GTX 980. The one in your spec is a Freesync screen which is designed for AMD graphics cards. The Monitor will still work but you won't get the variable refresh rates as NVidia cards don't support Freesync.

The Asus ROG Swift is G-Sync, but it is a TN panel. Acer also have the Predator which is IPS.

Oh damn, I totally didn't see that Freesync tag with this monitor. Well, I'm planning to buy these parts Q1/Q2 next year so I think that PG279Q will come out but I'm not in a hurry and that Acer Predator seems like a very good option, maybe the best option.

If you will be editing more than gaming,  an x99 platform i7 like the 5820k would be a better option

I would say it's 50:50 for now so... I will check pcpartpicker again for more options of course, maybe some cheaper ones.

Meh. Unless there are certain features you need on the motherboard, I would find a cheaper (but still very reliable) one. Motherboards don't USUALLY affect performance. Though, if you have the money, I'm not gonna stop you :)

You know that guy that games on a MacBook? I'm that guy.

Wow Asus ROG Swift PG279Q is 850€ in Germany! Stupid price for a 165Hz gimmick.

Acer Predator XB270HUbprz is much better option imo.
