So I'm pretty sure I have everything down, But I'd like to get any second opinions on my system.
I currently have:
CPU: FX 6300 (Stock speeds, Stock fan)
GPU: GTX 970
Motherboard: ASUS M5A78L-M LX PLUS (am3+)
RAM: Two Crucial Ballistix Sport 4GB
HDD: One WD Blue 1TB Western Digital and another older HDD that I'm going to be putting up (The older one is the one with my OS on it I recently bought the 1TB
SSD: None, Yet
Power supply: EVGA 100-W1-500-KR 500W

This Christmas, I'm going to be getting $400, I want to spend all of this on upgrading this pc. I was thinking this would be good but I'd like second opinions from you guys smile.gif

CPU: i5 4590 (Replacing the FX 6300, Not going to be overclocking so I didn't get a K version, Stock fan)
GPU: GTX 970
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-GAMING 3 LGA 1150 Z97 (Z97 Because next year I will be getting an i7 4790k and overclocking)
RAM: I will be using my two 4GB of ballistix and I will add one 8GB ballistix equaling to 16GB of ram
HDD: WD Blue 1TB Western Digital
SSD: Planning on getting an SSD later next year
Power supply: EVGA 100-W1-500-KR 500W
Case: Either getting a NZXT Phantom 410 Series for free from a friend or a RAIDMAX Scorpio V
I also want Windows 10 so I will be putting Windows 7 on my WD blue and upgrading to Windows 10 from there, Unless there is an easier way to do it? But opinions are greatly welcomed smile.gif

That RAM configuration sounds insane. When I tried something similar, my PC crashed a lot. (Sorry, by similar I meant it was exactly that. 8+4x2.)

Also, if you're just gonna upgrade your CPU again next year, why get one this year? Just get a 4690k.. Also, unless you're getting all the newest games this year, you should still be fine with 8GB of RAM.

Also, welcome! :)

Hmm I might get two more 4 gig sticks then, Also I only have 400 dollars, I need to buy a whole new motherboard, I simply can't afford a i7 right now but I'm planning ahead for the i7 c:

That's fine. Also, why do you need the i7? It won't give you a boost in gaming. It's more for things like video editing or 3d modeling, since it has Hyperthreading. I'd stick with an i5 if you're just gaming.

I've heard things about DirectX 12 being able to use more of the i7 while gaming, So it's mostly for future proofing.

Not really. DX12 does utilize more cores better, but less, more powerful cores would still probably be better.

R9 380 is worse than the 970. 390 is the equivalent. Also, he already owns the 970.

I agree with kob, i would recommend ram with at least matching capacities if not manufactures. With your budget it would benefit you to shoot for you rig to be up gradable as the funds become available. I'm only a few components away from finishing my new rig, and while waiting for more money can be torturous, you will be much happier with your finished build if you wait rather than settle.

EVGA W1 PSUs are terrible. Flat out terrible. Replace if you want your system to not randomly die at some point
