How does the Bios / OS install process work?

Hi all,

So I built a computer for my girlfriend last month and she has been getting a lot of blue screens and restarts happening lately. She gets it about once a day (every 10-12 hours or so) and the following error comes up:

KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE

I assume this is probably happening because when I built her PC I just put all the components together, did NOT upgrade the motherboard Bios, installed Windows 8.1, updated it, updated her APU's drivers, and called it a day.

My questions are the following:

1. If I try to update her motherboard Bios do I run the risk of bricking her PC?

2. Should I have updated the motherboard Bios using the included CD when I built her PC?

3. I'm building my own PC today, should I update my MOBO BIOS before I install my OS?

4. Could the error above be caused by anything other than the mobo bios?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!

Specs of her PC

AMD A8-7670k processor

Asus A88XM-A Socket FM2 AMD A88X Chipset Micro ATX

4GB Hyper X Fury RAM

Windows 8.1

1 TB Seagate 7200 RPM HDD

LG optical Drive GH24NSC0B

Could the problem be the fact the Motherboard says FM2 and the APU says FM2+ ? If so, why would Tiger Direct sell MOBO and APU as a bundle?

I assume this couldn't be the issue since the APU fit into the socket just fine.

Thanks.

There is a customer review that talks about the issue with BIOS, but I'm not sure I understand it fully.

Then on the ASUS Website it says it supports FM2+ so I'm now even more confused !!!!

you can run the risk of bricking it but its not something that happens a lot.

You can update the bios any time, but you will risk again, bricking it, but however, you can reinstall it if you fuck up and you have a flash drive copy

Sure why not.

Yes, it can be caused by overclocking.

Not sure why the security check failure happens,  but I've come across this error a lot when overclocking.

I get that a lot while try high clock speeds while overclocking.

Not just that security thing, some other  blue screen errors as well.

Try lowering your clock speed if you overclocked or increase the voltage. Helps for me
