I currently have a Radeon HD 6770, and am planning on upgrading my video card next month. I have an AMD Phenom II x6 over clocked to 3.2 (turbo is turned off). I'm trying to find a GTX 660ti or a GTX 670, all based on price. If anyone has a recommendation on a card for a good price it would be appreciated. Also, I'm looking for a Nvidia card because I play a few games that have PhysX support, and would like it use it, with out performance loss.

I would agree the 7950 has an amazing price/performance ratio. Personal PhysX is not utilized in enough titles for the need to buy a nVidia based card, but if it is a big need to you then with the current generation nVidia i would recommend a 670.

Good Luck!

Your processor will bottleneck a 7950. Go with a 7850 or 650ti, it'll be wasted performance if you go any higher.

My Current Build:

  • 5.0GHz i7-3770k Processor
  • Asus Maximus V Formula Z77 Mobo
  • SLI Asus DCUII 670's Watercooled
  • 120GB Corsair Force GT3 Boot SSD
  • 1TB WD Caviar Black HDD
  • 16GB 1866MHz 9-10-9-27 G.Skill Ripjaws Z Memory
  • 1050w Seasonic 80+ Gold
  • Caselabs M8
  • Windows 7 64 bit
  • Samsung Blu-Ray Combo Drive
  • Creative Recon 3D Sound Card
  • XSPC Raystorm CPU Waterblock
  • Dual 360mm UT60 Rads
  • 15 Yate Loon Medium fans
  • Yamakasi Catleap Monitor (1440p)
  • Sennheiser HD 598

PhysX will cause a performance hit to the GPU as it is an extra set of calculations that have to be done when rendering. The performance hit would depend upon the physics calculations that are involved with the current action that you are doing. For example if you where to pick some one up and throw them across the room in the game at other people there would be more of a hit to the performance because you would have to calculate velocity distance traveled and the force of impact to determine how much damage that would do. That is a very basic explanation as there is other things that come into account. Whereas falling say 5 feet from the top of the building to the ground would be a lot easier on the GPU.

Thanks for all the feed back guys, ill keep all your of it in mind when I'm at the purchasing point. Also for those of you wondering what games I play that involve PhysX, they are: Mafia II, Borderlands 2 and Planetside 2. (Which I play way to much planetside and even though they have removed PhysX due to bugs, I would like to have the option when it is re-enabled). But with the after taking a look at some reviews and benchmarks I may just got with the 7950 or even wait for the 700 and 8000 series of cards to come out and see what prices are like then. Again thank you all for the feed back.
