How do I enable 'Previous Versions'?

Currently using Windows 10 Pro installed on an SSD with two HDDs as storage.

I was editing a photo and accidentally hit save instead of save as. Went to restore it to the previous version but it says there isn't one.

I think I read somewhere it has to do with system restore but that is enabled.

Do I need to enable it on my HDDs as well in order for it to keep a copy? I don't save anything to the SSD.

The only time incorrectly is spelled incorrectly is when it is spelled incorrectly.

"System protection might not be turned on for the drive those files are stored on. If system protection is not turned on, Windows can't create previous versions."

Yep, thought as much.

Thanks!

File history works but I don't have a donor drive to store it on.
